Shoot 2 Win brings a unique vision to the American stage: a cast loaded to the hilt with African
American women. The issues addressed by the play, though, are truly universal, providing a platform
from which to reflect on circumstances endured by women of all backgrounds.
Fittingly, the play is the brainchild of a unique collaboration of women. The original British version of
the play was penned by Tracey Daley, Jo Martin, and Josephine Melville. The play has now been
transformed for the American audience by actor/producer Donna Maria Augustin. The adaptation directed by Tracey Moore is both humorous and supremely honest.
Their work is a paramount feat; only 17 percent of plays produced at nonprofit subscription theatres
in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut are written by women. The New York Times recently
reported that of the 50 new plays debuting at off-Broadway theaters during the 2008/2009 season,
only 10 were written by women.
Shoot 2 Win also addresses a profound racial disparity in the theater world: the number of all-black
productions onstage is small, and the number of all-black, all-female productions is even smaller.
The play is poised to make a dent in this reality, but we cannot effect this change without your support.
Individuals and foundations continue to be the largest contributors to non-profit theater in America.
Over 40 percent of all donated revenue is generated by individuals like you. It is with your financial
support that we can help Shoot 2 Win not only reach new audiences, but take up residence on
Broadway.
